Mother's Day - Spirelli Technique

I saw a technique/tutorial on the Operational Write Home website that I had learned and forgotten and just had to try it out again.   The technique is called spirelli and involves wrapping twine or floss around a scalloped object creating interest and texture.  The tutorial can be found here.

A2 sized card = 5.5" x 4.25"
Spirelli Technique

Here's how I made my Mother's Day card:
  • Mat 1 (wallpaper pattern) = 5.25" x 4".  Design Paper from DCWV Mainstreet Stack.  Edges inked with Tim Holtz Antique Linen Distress Ink.
  • Mat 2 (solid blue) = 3 1/8" x 3 1/8".  Edges inked with Tim Holtz Antique Linen Distress Ink.
  • Mat 3 (light tan checkered) = 3" x 3".  Design Paper from DCWV Mainstreet Stack.  Edges inked with Tim Holtz Antique Linen Distress Ink.  Liquid Pearls Baby Blue added along top and bottom.
  • Scallop 1 (solid blue) = 3" cut from basic image set found on Cricut Imagine.    Edges inked with Tim Holtz Antique Linen Distress Ink.  Scallop mounted with foam tape.
  • Scallop 2 (polka dot design with floss) = 2.5" cut from basic image set found on Cricut Imagine.  Light blue Friendship Thread (found in children's section at Walmart) wrapped around every 8th scallop edge.  Center of scallop is a tissue paper flower stick-on found in the dollar section at Target.
  • Mat 4 (under sentiment) = cut to sentiment size.  Edges of mat inked with Tim Holtz Peeled Paint Distress Ink.
  • Sentiment (Happy Mother's Day) = from Hero Arts Celebrate Everyday stamp set.
  • Leaves = from Marvy punch.  Design Paper from DCWV Mainstreet Stack. Edges inked with Tim Holtz Peeled Paint Distress Ink.
  • Butterfly = from Martha Stewart punch.  Design Paper from DCWV Mainstreet Stack and is from scrap of background wallpaper design.
  • Ribbon = from Michaels.
