Card Recipe:

• Mat 1 (black) = 5.25" x 4".
• Mat 2 (beige) = 5" x 3.75".
• Background:  cover the top of your stamp block with Tim Holtz Antique Linen Distress Ink and stamp onto the center of your card stock.
• Sentiment and Swirl = from Inkadinkao "Holiday Wishes" stamp set.  Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.
• Twine = Baker's Twine from Darice
• Snowflake = punch from The Paper Studio
• Accent:  gem in center of snowflake from Michaels.

CAS Paper Strips Card

CAS (Clean and Simple) design using only paper strips.

A2 size card = 5.5" x 4.25"

Card Recipe:

• Cut 5 paper strips = 5.25" x .75".  Designer paper from My Mind's Eye "Oxford Lane" 6x6 pack. 
• Cut 1 = 5.25" x 3.75" out of scrap card stock.  I used a beige card stock.
• Tape paper strips onto the 5.25" x 3.75 card stock.
• Punch bottom border with Martha Stewart punch.

Cuttlebug "Charles" folder

• Emboss with Cuttlebug "Charles" folder.
• Wrap twine around three times and tape on back side.
• Tie a bow at top.  I like securing my bows with a drop of white glue on the back side.
• Tape onto to a 5.25" x 4" (green mat) card stock.

OWH Sketch 175

Flowers on a Fence.

Operation Write Home Sketch #175  I have to admit, when I first saw the sketch I really didn't care for it.  It looked just too ... blah?  A border and four one inch squares.  But, once I started, I liked the results.  I changed the border into a fence and the four one inch squares into four one inch flowers.  And I rounded a couple of the corners. The extra flowers that I added are covering up an oops (Liquid Pearls smear).  Here is my card:

A2 sized card = 5.5" x 4.25"

Card Recipe:

• Mat 1 (white) = 5.25" x 4".  Mat embossed with Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder.  Two corners rounded at 1/2".
• Mat 2 (turquoise and white polka dots) = 4.75" x 3.5".  Paper from My Mine's Eye "Sky's the Limit" cardstock.  Two corners rounded at 1/2".

• Fence = cut white cardstock at 1.5" x 4" then punch with Martha Stewart punch.
• Flowers = from Martha Stewart punch.  Center of flowers are Liquid Pearls.  Paper from My Mine's Eye "Sky's the Limit" cardstock.

Card Recipe:

• Mat 1 (yellow) = 5.25" x 4". 
• Flower Petals - Color 1 (green polka dots) = two at 1.25" x 1.25", one at 1" x 1", one at 1" x 2.25". 
• Flower Petals - Color 2 (brown polka dots) = two at 1.25" x 1.25", one at 1" x 1".
• Flower Petals - Color 3 (pink) = two at 1" x 1", one at 1.25" x 1.25".
• Round corners at 1/2" and ink edges with Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distress Ink.  Attach all petals with ATG except the 1" x 2.25" petal.  Trim off petals that hang off edge of mat.  Emboss mat with attached petals with Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder.
• Petal sizes (left to right) = Green polka dot and Brown polka dot = 1.25" x 1.25".  Green polka dot and pink = 1" x 1".  Pink and Brown polka dot = 1" x 1".  Green polka with sentiment = 1" x 2.25".  Last three Brown polka dot, green polka dot and pink are all 1.25" x 1.25'.
• Stamp sentiment "Thanks" on 1" x 2.25" petal.  Attach with foam tape.  Sentiment from TPC Studio Greetings stamp set.

Operation Write Home (OWH) Sketch #166

Bargello Technique

One of the advantages of being on a design team is you get to see wonderful talent and new techniques.  Recently, I was viewing the entries on a Cards in Envy Challenge for using Paper Strips instead of Ribbon.  One entry in particular caught my eye.  Teresa from the Tayberrys blog site submitted a card with a background called Bargello Technique.   The technique involves cutting a series of patterned and solid papers, taping them in a row to another card stock, cutting that into yet another series of strips and manipulating them so that you end up with a weave pattern.   I made it sound much more difficult that it really is.  Teresa has a class section on her web site that explains it much better here.

Here is my card:

A2 sized card = 5.5" x 4.25"
Bargello Weave Pattern

Card recipe:

• Mat 1 (solid blue) = 5.5" x 4.25".
• Mat 2 (weave pattern) = 5" x 4". Mat 2 was embossed with Cuttlebug Daisy folder. Edges were inked with Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distress Ink.
• Twine = The Paper Studio.

One inch strips that will be used for the card.

 

Weave recipe:

• Cut 1" strips of solid card stock. I used three solids (dark blue, light blue and beige). I also used four patterns from DCWV the Crafty Stack.
• Cut one 5 x 7 card stock for background (won't be seen). Put tape all over this background piece then lay your 1" strips in order desired.

Strips have been taped to a 5" x 7" card stock

• Next trim the edges off leaving you with a 5" x 7" striped pattern.
• Cut this striped pattern into 1" strips.

1" strips to be used as weave pattern

• Cut one 5" x 5" background piece (will not be seen).  Put tape all over it and lay your 1" strips in the desired pattern.

One inch strips have been taped to the background piece.

• Following this step, I cut my final piece down to 5" x 4" for use on the card.

the button on the front of the card.

• Mat 1 (patchwork weave) = 5.25" x 4".  Patchwork consists of 1" squares.   Pattern paper from DCWV the Crafty Stack.  Edges of mat inked using Tim Holtz Faded Jeans Distress Ink.
• Circles under butterflies = 1" circle punch.  Circles have been embossed using Cuttlebug Mesh folder.  Edges inked using Tim Holtz Faded Jeans Distress Ink.  Circles are attached with foam tape.
• Butterflies = from Martha Stewart punch.  Smaller butterfly glued to top of larger butterfly.    Larger butterflies attached with foam tape to circles.  Edges inked using Tim Holtz Faded Jeans Distress Ink.
• Ribbon = from Michaels.
