MCCR - Operation Write Home Card

Today we are making cards for Operation Write Home.  This great organization makes cards that our service men and women can use for their correspondence.  OWH requires that the cards are "flat" - as in no lumpy and bumpy embellishments.

Recently OWH requested cards that could be sent home to their children.  With that in mind I created this fun card of a frog (with googly eyes) chasing a butterfly.  The frog was cut three times and glued one on top of the other to make it more "thick" before it was glued to the card.  The only foam tape layering is under the butterfly - just one thin foam tape layer.

A2 sized card = 5.5" x 4.25"
Campin Critters Cartridge
Card Recipe:
  • Mat 1 (white) = 5" x 3.75".  Edges rounded at 1/2".
  • Mat 2 (stripped pattern) = 5" x 1.75".  Edges inked with Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distress Ink.  Paper from My Mind's Eye "Oxford Lane" 6x6 pack.
  • Mat 2 (black white stripes) = 5" x 1".  Edges inked with Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distress Ink.  Paper from My Mind's Eye "Oxford Lane" 6x6 pack.
  • Mats embossed together using Cuttlebug "Charles" folder.

No lumpy / bumpy embellishments for OWH
  • Frog and Butterfly = cut at 3" from Campin' Critters cartridge; found on page 47 of the folder.  Polka Dot paper from Recollections.  Frog was cut three times and layered together to create an extra thick image before gluing straight on to card.  Butterfly is on one thickness of foam tape.  Edges inked with Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distress Ink.  Googly Eyes added to frog.

Inside of Card
Butterfly Net from Campin' Critters cartridge

Inside of Card:
  • Mat 1 (green) = 5" x 3.75".
  • Mat 2 (white) = 4.75" x 3.5".
  • Butterfly Net = cut at 3" from Campin Critters cartridge; found on page 47 of the folder.  Edges inked with Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distress Ink.  Polka Dot paper from Recollections.
Back of Card
Back of Card:
  • Operation Write Home requires that all cards be stamped with their logo (stamps are provided free via their web site).  I have added my own stamp - which is strictly optional.
