Cards in Envy Challenge - In the Spotlight



Welcome to another Cards in Envy Challenge!  For this challenge we are to create an A2 sized card (5.5" x 4.25")  that "Spot Lights" an item or area on your card to make it stand out.  For example, maybe on part of your image like one flower or the face you make a circle of light or what looks like a light on just that part of the card.  Only requirement is that the card is 1/4" or less in thickness in order to fit in an envelope.

• Mat 1 (gray striped) = 5 1/4" x 4".
• Mat 2 (black border) = 2 5/8 x 5 1/8".
• Mat 3 (tan pattern border) = 2 1/2" x 5".
• Mat 4 (black under image) = 2 3/4" x 4".
• Holy Family Image = from Holy Card; 2 1/2" x 3 3/4".  Image was scanned in color and photo shopped to black and white. 
• Spotlight = 1" circle cut using Cricut Accent Essentials and center point feature; [Accnt3s] found on page 34 of the folder.  Black shadow cut at 1" from Cricut Accent Essentials; [Accnt3s][Shadow] found on page 34 of the folder.  Image is mounted with foam tape.
• Sentiment "God bless you" = from CardzTV "Encouraging Thoughts" stamp set.
• Twine = from Michaels.

• Cross = cut at 1 1/4" from Cricut New Testament cartridge; [Joseph1][Crosses] found on page 23 of the folder.  Cross attached with twine.

• Mat 2 (spider web pattern) = 5 1/8" x 3 13/16".  Paper from K & Company "Halloween Mat Pad" 4.75" x 6.75" pad.  Edges inked with Tim Holtz Pealed Paint Distress Ink. 
• Mat 3 (black border) = 4 1/8" x 1".
• Mat 4 (green border) = 4 1/8" x 3 15/16".  Paper from K& Company "Halloween Mat Pad."  Black gel pen used for faux stitching.
• Spider Webs = created using Friendship Thread.

• Boiling Pot = cut at 3" from Cricut Mini Monsters cartridge; found on page 67 of the folder.  Paper from K & Company "Halloween Mat Pad."   White gel pen used for faux stitching.
• Accents = three googly eyes added along border.
• Sentiment "Hot Hot Hot"= from CardzTV "Home for Christmas" stamp set.  Sentiment originally is "Ho! Ho! Ho!".  I just made "T" out of the "!" with black pen.

• Mat 1 (octagon pattern) = 5.5" x 4.25".  Paper from Authentique Seasons Summer pack.  Edges inked with Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distress Ink.
• Mat 2 (light green) = 4.75" x 3.75". 
• Petals (four different patterns) = made using 1" square punch.  Corners rounded at 1/4".  Paper from Authentique Seasons Summer pack. Edges inked with Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distress Ink.
• Accent = straight lines drawn using a blue gel pen.  Ruler used to make lines straight.
• Mat2 with Flower Petals = embossed with Cuttlebug Geometric Rings.  Embossing "smooshes" everything are really enforces the petal attachments.
• Flowers = Martha Stewart punch.  Center of flowers contains Liquid Pearls.
• Tag = cut at 2.25" using Cricut Accent Essentials; found on page 78 of the folder.  Twine bow tie is Friendship Twine purchased at Walmart in the children's craft section.  A drop of glue added to center of bow and left to dry keeps the bow from coming untied.  Tag mounted with foam tape.
• Sentiment "Miss You" = from TPC "Greeting" stamp set.

• Mat 2 (solid blue, yellow, brown, green) = cut image and white shadow at 1.5" from Cricut Accent Essentials cartridge; <Accent47-s> found on page 78 of the folder.
• Mat 3 (white) = 1 1/4" punch used.  Corners rounded at 1/4".  Mats were embossed with Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder.
• Flowers (larger flowers) = from Martha Stewart punch.   Paper from Echo Park Dots & Stripes Bundle of Joy Boy pack. 
• Half Pearls = in center of flowers from Michaels.

• Fence = 1.25" paper, then punched with Martha Stewart punch.
• Flowers (smaller flowers on lower left of card) = from Martha Stewart punch.  Centers of flowers are Liquid Pearls "Buttercup".

A2 sized card.

Mat 1 (blue) = 5 3/8" x 4 1/8".   Mat has been embossed with Paper Studio "Stripes" embossing folder.

Mat 2 (white) = 1 1/2" x 4 1/8".  Mat has been embossed with Paper Studio "Tiny Stars" embossing folder.

Red Stars = cut one at 1", cut two at 3/4" from Accent Essentials Cricut cartridge; <Accnt34s>, page 65 of folder.

Sentiment "Thanks!" = from TPC Studio "Greetings" stamp set.

Lego Card

A2 sized card.

Mat 1 (white) = 5.25" x 4".   Embossed using Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder.
Mat 2 (red) = 4.5" x 3.5".   Embossed using Cuttlebug Spots and Dots folder.  Red mat was heat embossed with Zing! clear embossing powder to give shinny finish.

Yellow Lego = cut square at 1.75" from Cricut Accent Essentials, <Accnt27s>, page 58 of folder.   Circles = cut four at .75" from Cricut Accent Essentials cartridge, <Accnt1s>, page 32 of folder.  

Smaller Legos = cut squares at 1.25" from Cricut Accent Essentials cartridge, <Accnt27s>, page 58 of folder.  Circles = cut each at .5" from Cricut Accent Essentials cartridge, <Accnt1s>, page 32 of folder.

Sentiment = "Celebrate" from Hampton Art stamp set, Memento Tuxedo black ink.   Sentiment was stamped, then cut around and mounted on foam tape.

The circles on the Lego have Tim Holtz Tea Dye distress ink on the edges.   Circles are also accented with white gel pen and have Glossy Accents added on top.  Circles are mounted with foam tape.

The square portion of Lego is also mounted on foam tape.

Red Lego created the same as above smaller lego cuts.   Red circles are mounted with foam tape.   Square portion was taped to card.

Stars = cut at 1.25" from Cricut Accent Essentials, <Accent34>, page 65 of folder.  The two bottom stars are the center cuts from the 1.25" stars.  Edges of lower stars have gold stickles.  All stars have had Glossy Accents added.

Mats 3, 4, 5 (light purple) = 2.25" x 1.5".

Heart images = cut at 1.25" from Cricut Accent Essentials,<Accnt36s>, page 67 of folder.  Face on center heart is from Peachy Keen stamp set PK-450 Wide Eyed Kids Face Assortment (5/8" size).  Center heart mounted on one layer of foam tape.

Sentiments = from Hero Arts stamp set.

Accents = glitter gems from Michaels.  Red cheeks on face of heart from Craft-T Chalks.   Edges of mats and hearts inked with Tim Holtz Tea Dye distress ink.

Flower from Scraps

This card was made using scrap paper.

Here is how to make it:

Cut four 2 3/4 inch squares.
Cut four 2 1/2 inch squares.

Use a corner rounder and cut opposite corners on two sides.

On my card I also used the corner rounder on the mat and card base.  Flower pedals have Tim Holtz's Tea Dye distress ink on the edges. 

Cuttlebug Daisy folder used on mat.   Cuttlebut Swiss Dots used on two pedals.

Center flower was cut from Accent Essentials at 2 inches.
